My wife and I visited Bwindi last year, and it was easily the highlight of our trip to East Africa(Uganda and Tanzania). The trek to the gorillas was a pleasant hike through the rain forest, but the suspense was tangible. We were fortunate to reach our group of gorillas fairly quickly.
Once we were there, it felt surprisingly natural, since all the gorillas seemed very nonchalant about our presence. We just watched them for our allotted hour, fascinated by the family dynamics from the silverback down to the six month old baby riding her mama's back.
The ranger guides were very professional and helpful. The permits are expensive, but well worth the totally unique experience.
