Safety and Security in Uganda
by Mark Knight
July 17, 2015
Hi, Just a quick; What is the safety and security like in Uganda?
Thanks for your question.
Generally, Uganda is a very safe country to visit.
I will quickly add that many times - depending on where you are, common sense should prevail. Avoid placing yourself in positions of risk; Walking alone down an obscure street at night, flashing you jewellery, wallet / precious possessions etc ... You might be a victim under such circumstances.
Fortunately, such incidents are very rare and the chance of being a random victim is almost unusual. And as with many third-world countries, theft and muggings are relatively common, but most incidents are in cities, Kampala in particular - some of these are down to personal negligence.
On the security; I've just got to mention terror attacks - These have happened in the past. Unfortunately, globally, terrorism has become part of life and it is very difficult, if not impossible, to safeguard against it.
Watch out for any terror alerts from the police ... and please take precaution - follow the advice to the letter, there is usually a smoking gun!
Some countries do issue travel warnings - here are some travel advisory links that could have very useful information;
• New Zealand
• United Kingdom
• United States
I hope this somehow answers your question.
